Product Wars: Bioderma vs L'oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water

Bioderma has become quite a cult product in the beauty blogging world with everyone seemingly loving it.  I’m not going to lie I was quite sceptical at first.  I mean, it looks just like water and I didn’t see how it could be such a magical makeup remover.  However, after spotting it in a pharmacy in Covent Garden, I bought the travel version to see what all the hype was about.  After my first time using it I was hooked.  It removes waterproof mascara like nothing else I’ve tried and it doesn’t irritate my eyes or skin either – double bonus!

I've made a video comparing the two products which you can check out here.  However, if you prefer to read reviews or want a little more detailed info, then keep reading.

Unfortunately, Bioderma isn’t very easy to find in the UK, hence why I snapped it up when I saw it in Covent Garden.  It’s also quite expensive for a product that gets used up quite quickly – I’ve used about 1/3 of my travel sized bottle in under a week.  So when I heard that L’oreal had produced a dupe for Bioderma, I went on the hunt for it.  A quick trip to Superdrug and I found it on half price, it’s like it was fate!  Both products are micellar waters which supposedly attract makeup and remove it, as opposed to smearing it around the face.

To test the effectiveness of both products, I poured a little of the solution onto a cotton pad, using Bioderma on one eye and L’oreal on the other.  I had quite a lot of eye makeup on, including gel liner and waterproof mascara that can prove difficult to get off.  However, both these products removed everything very easily without irritating my eyes.  Therefore, in terms of effectiveness both Bioderma and L’oreal are equally effective.  I’m not sure if one product is better for your skin in the long term as I have only just started using these products but L’oreal appears to be just as good as Bioderma at removing makeup.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend the L’oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Solution and think it is just as good as Bioderma.  The packaging of Bioderma is slightly nicer as the product comes out with a little more control.  However, for the price you can’t beat L’oreal and it is also easier to get hold of.

Prices:
Bioderma 100ml - £4.50
Bioderma 250ml - £9.99
Bioderma 500ml - £14.50
L’oreal 200ml - £4.99

If you do still want to purchase the original Bioderma, the most cost effective size is the 500ml bottle.  This puts it at £2.90/100ml which is almost the same price as the L’oreal version.
